Since the advent of e-book readers, the publishing industry landscape has transformed completely. Every writer worth his salt can now publish an e-book and is not at the mercy of the entrenched publishing houses. Book publishing companies have now moved online and do not guard the gates of the revered hall of fame for writers. The best of the lot have had a bumpy start as bloggers but then could successfully direct the momentum into self-published e-book sales. Take, for example, Andy Weir. His massive sci-fi hit, The Martian, is being turned into a Hollywood movie – and his book started out humbly as a regular blog post. The key is, of course, in going the extra mile and publicising your first e-book as a part of a customised marketing blitzkrieg.
